Annual Tournament

Harvard-Westlake Challenge

Every December since 2023, 1148 hosts Harvard-Westlake Challenge, a VRC tournament inviting over 70 teams in both middle and high school divisions from all over Southern California to compete in this action-packed STEM competition.

We bring together some of the most talented young engineers in the region for an unforgettable weekend of competition, collaboration, and community.

Team 1148 partners with Hope the Mission to run LEGO Spike robotics workshops with underprivileged children experiencing homelessness in the greater Los Angeles area.

We have so much fun working with these children on the engineering design process and introducing them to important skills in STEM. We ran our first workshop in spring of 2024 and have been growing our program more and more since.

Tech Drive

In 2025–26, 1148 ran a donation drive collecting unused technology from the Harvard-Westlake community, to be donated to Hope the Mission families in order to improve access to technology.

Accessible STEM

Angel City Sports

In 2025, Team 1148 hosted its first booth in partnership with Angel City Sports at their Youth Weekend on March 30th to introduce robotics as an accessible competitive sport and to promote participation of physically and visually impaired youth in engineering. We helped introduce children to the engineering design process through fun and accessible tactile activities.

In 2026, 1148 expanded their booth to run over both days of the Angel City Sports Youth Weekend from March 21–22 — continuing to serve our mission of accessible STEM and robotics for all.

Our Commitment

Making an Impact Beyond the Field

Through tournaments, workshops, and community partnerships, Team 1148 continues to grow its outreach programs — bringing STEM education and engineering opportunities to students and families across Southern California who need them most.
